Joan Thomson

Obituary of Joan Marie Thomson

THOMSON, Joan Marie

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Joan Marie Thomson, known to many as “Nana”. Joan passed away peacefully on Monday August 19th at the age of 83, surrounded by those she loved the most, her family. Pre-deceased by her husband Bob, sister Carol and brother Butch. Joan is survived by her brother Bob (Sharon) whom she loved so much. Also survived by her children Rob, Tammy (Pat), Andy (Cathy) Jen (Skip) Grandchildren Nick (Amanda), Paige (Dylan), Mackenzie (Hayden), Adam (Amber), Katelyn, Hunter, Emma (Tyler) and her two great granddaughters Ilee and Charlie, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was an excellent baker and was most happy when baking cakes, cookies or pies and then giving them away to friends, neighbors and family. Her family was everything to her especially all her grandchildren, her face lit up every time she would talk about them. She will be greatly missed by not only her family, but all the people she encountered along the way. To say she “loved” people is an understatement. The family would like to send a huge thank you to mom’s best friend, Joan Horton, you were the best friend anyone could ask for, you stuck by mom through the good times and the bad, you were her biggest supporter and most importantly her voice of reason especially during her “stubborn moments”. Joan you are one of a kind and we love you. We would also like to thank the palliative care nurses at Douglas Memorial Hospital and The Walker Family Cancer Centre for the wonderful care provided to mom. You are all amazing. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. A gathering of friends and family will be held Friday August 23, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Mom’s favourite breakfast spot, The Breakfast Beacon, 404 Ridgeway Road, Crystal Beach. Donations in memory may be made to Douglas Memorial Hospital.
